Year-End Mochi-Pounding Experience

Mochi is an auspicious rice cake eaten during the Japanese New Year to wish for good health and longevity. Mochi pounding is a traditional Japanese activity in which steamed glutinous rice is pounded with a wooden mallet in a mortar as everyone prepares to welcome the New Year together.

  • Time: From 3:30 p.m. each day (once daily)

New Year’s Eve Soba & Countdown Celebration

In Japan, people eat toshikoshi soba on New Year’s Eve, wishing for a long and healthy life. After enjoying the noodles, join us for the countdown to the New Year. As midnight arrives, celebrate the beginning of a new year beneath fireworks illuminating the night sky in the HANZ forest.

Osechi Breakfast: A Taste of the Japanese New Year

Osechi is a traditional Japanese New Year meal enjoyed with wishes for happiness, good health, prosperity and the continuation of the family line. Each dish and ingredient carries a special meaning and expresses the hope that the family will enjoy happiness throughout the coming year.

Write Your New Year’s Wish on an Ema

An ema is a traditional Japanese wooden plaque on which people write their wishes or goals before offering it at a shrine. Write your hopes and goals for the coming year on an original HANZ ema.
